Congratulations! You've made it to December. I know October and November can seem long and almost difficult to get through. But the good news is December brings so much to anticipate.
-A countdown to winter break! -A countdown to the end of 1st semester (HALF WAY WHAT?!) -A countdown to anything really!
Here are a few strategies I've picked up along the way to maximize my breaks.
1. I prep my lessons for the first return day or two before I leave. This has reduced so much anxiety over break, and I get to be present more with my friends and family.
2. I put an auto reply on my email. If you have access to your work email from your phone, turn off notifications. (I mean, I could go on about how I feel you should take your work email off your phone all together, but to each his own. But I'm just saying.)
3. I don't OVER schedule myself. I love my friends and family, but I personally also need a few days of individual recharge. I know that if I want to hang out with friends, all I have to do is text.
4. I plan something fun to look forward to over break, and the week I return to work. Over break, I try to do something I wouldn't have time for, like seeing a movie during the day, getting a massage, or traveling a few hours to visit a few friends. I like to plan something for the return week so I don't feel so down and I still create that sense of anticipation.
December is going to FLY by. And before you know it, you are done with the first half of your year.
